Western Red Cedar has two forms of natural defence within its genetic make-up; a plicatic acid that retards the decaying process and an aromatic phenol, which prevents insects from attacking the timber.

With these properties, its natural longevity makes cedar ideal for use as cladding or roof covering. It has been widely used in the construction of buildings throughout North America and Canada since the arrival of the first European settlers over 200 years ago.
